Sports 2000 Season Finale

This weekend I'm at Brands Hatch for the final two rounds of the 2020 Creative Funding Solutions Sports 2000 Championship. A number of different champions will crowned on Sunday afternoon in both the Duratec and Pinto classes, including the Derek Bell Trophy. Michael Gibbins comes into the final meeting on a 13-win streak (including the fact he won all-but-one race in 2019 too!) with Peter Needham on top of the standings in the Pintos!

The series was at Brands Hatch just a few weeks ago as part of the Ford Power Live event, using the short Indy circuit. Traffic was a big problem for the front-runners during the two 25-minute races, but it was a thrilling encounter all the same - Gibbins taking two from two, with some incredible battling in the Pintos and a few incidents and Safety Cars to shake it up.

It's bound to be an exciting double-header with Tom Stoten and Josh Law keeping Michael Gibbins on his toes, with pressure behind from the likes of Paul Trayhurn, Giles Billingsley and Dominic Lesniewski. I'm admittedly a huge fan of the Pintos - their elegant, "undisturbed" shapes look fantastic on track and the racing has been great in their class this season.

I've been incredibly grateful to commentate on this wonderful championship this year and meet some excellent people, who really do make it feel like - if you'll pardon the cliche - a family. There's always drivers and teams mingling and helping one another where possible, while also having a laugh and a joke about their on-track antics. The racing is still fierce though and insanely competitive.

I'll be sharing links to TSL on my Social Media where possible - keep an eye out if you want to listen in.
