Welcome to the Chaz Draycott Media Clio Cup - a series designed to show off the wonderful world of tin-top hatchback racing that really kick-started my career in real-world motorsport commentary in Europe, with Clio Cup Europe. After multiple seasons with Boremula 1 and Formula CDM, with the latter set to continue, it was time to get a roof over our heads again, and what better way to do that than with a formula that's proven itself all around the world - the Renault Clio Cup.

These feisty little cars don't pack the most horsepower, aerodynamic capability or high-tech racing gimmicks, but that's what makes them so great. They're no-nonsense, sub-200 horsepower pocket rockets, built to last. They can survive numerous bouts of contact during a race, not that we encourage it, but also provide a huge opportunity for slipstreaming.
The specific car used on iRacing these days is the fifth generation Clio Cup car, which saw an impressive amount of success all over Europe in Renault's own Clio Cup Europe from 2019 to 2023, combining five regional championships into one huge series. Some race events would have in excess of 50 cars entered, with one round at Paul Ricard even supporting the Formula One French Grand Prix.

It may not be the most difficult thing to drive, as most of us are used to front-wheel-drive hatchbacks away from racing, but it's a tricky little blighter to master, as throttle and brake application is crucial to maintaining speed around some of the world's greatest racing circuits.
