This coming weekend I'll be commentating on the TCR UK Touring Car Championship from Silverstone, as well as a plethora of other tin-top racing series over the weekend! A last-minute deal means that I'll be making my debut on the mic at the legendary British circuit at last, after a previously-planned visit with Sports 2000 was called off. Not only that, but the TCR cars will be on track with the VW Cup and Dunlop Touring Car Trophy, so more top-quality action all at once!
I've grown up watching touring cars and always found the mix of cars exciting, especially as the racing is usually so close. A few weeks ago I commentated at Thruxton on some saloon car racing that could be considered Touring Car Racing, but in my mind this is a step up in terms of the machinery and prestige.
The series may have struggled in recent years for the numbers, but as a lot of championships across the world have shown us, you don't need a big grid to generate great racing and if any kind of cars could really hit home with that, it's TCR cars! Silverstone is a great venue for them too as the mix of fast corners, slow corners and long straights really helps to give an advantage of some kind to each and every car over the course of a lap.
The Fun Cup UK, BRSCC Mazda MX-5 Supercup, Milltek Civic Cup and BRSCC Fiesta Junior Championship are also going to be there over the weekend with other Fiesta and MX-5 series thrown in as well - it's bound to be an incredible race meeting filled with the sorts of cars I love to see on track!
