In a very sudden turn, off the back of simply some WhatsApp messages, I have been invited to be the broadcaster and commentator for an inaugural event named the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series (NWES for short) NASCAR Fans UK iRacing Challenge. The event will take place tonight (1st April) and feature a group of real-life racing drivers, and give fans the chance to race against them in the sim.
Using the awesome, powerful ARCA NASCAR machines on iRacing, a 30-lap race around Brands Hatch's Indy layout will be set to mimic the real-life American Speedfest race that takes place every year.
Coming together with Vertex Sport Management, LuxSim24 and Simply Race has been very quickly and effectively organised to make this a reality, and the whole thing will be broadcast on the Official NASCAR Whelen Euro Series' YouTube Channel and Facebook Page!
The action all starts from 7pm UK time, with a 10-minute Practice and individual Qualifying session before the race itself. Even now, just a day before the event begins I'm still coming to terms with the fact I've been asked to do this - it's a real sign of how things have escalated, but I can't wait to get things going!
